Jokbal (Braised Pig's Trotters) Plate

Hello to all my fellow foodies planning a trip to Korea! 🍖

If you ask a local, "What is the one dish I must try in Seoul besides Bibimbap?" many would shout 'Jokbal' (Braised Pig's Trotters). And when it comes to Jokbal, there is one legendary place that has consistently earned the Michelin Bib Gourmand for years.

Today, I’m introducing Manjok Ohyang Jokbal (City Hall Branch), famous for its melt-in-your-mouth texture and secret five-spice aroma. Here is the complete guide for your perfect dinner.

3. 🎟️ How to Handle the Wait (Tips for Foreigners)

Since this is one of the most famous restaurants in Seoul, expect a queue during dinner time (6 PM – 8 PM).

  • The Kiosk System: There is a tablet/kiosk at the entrance. Enter your phone number to get a waiting ticket.
  • Wait Time: On weekdays, the wait is usually 20–40 minutes. On weekends, it can be longer.
  • Pro Tip: If you want to avoid the crowd, visit around 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM for an early dinner.

4. ✨ Real User Reviews: The Good & The Bad

👍 PROS

  • Incredibly tender meat with a savory five-spice flavor.
  • Garlic sauce with cabbage cuts through richness perfectly.
  • Free, refillable dumpling soup is a huge bonus!

👎 CONS

  • The narrow alley can be tricky to find for first-timers.
  • Energy is high and it gets very loud inside.

5. 💡 Essential Tips for the Full Experience

  • The "Special" Sauce: Put the shredded cabbage into the garlic vinegar sauce. Eat it with the meat for the best balance.
  • Warm Plate: Enjoy your meal slowly; the heated plate keeps the meat warm.
  • Pairing: Try it with Somaek (Soju + Beer) for the most authentic experience.

6. Top Attractions Nearby (Perfect for Sightseeing) 🏛️

Since the restaurant is in the heart of downtown, you can easily combine your meal with these spots:

  • Deoksugung Palace: Only a 5-minute walk. Famous for its beautiful stone-wall walkway.
  • Seoul Plaza: Right in front of City Hall. Great for seasonal events.
  • Sungnyemun Gate (Namdaemun): A 10-minute walk to see Korea’s National Treasure No. 1.
  • Myeong-dong Shopping District: A 15-minute walk away.
